  • Dive Desk adopts Green Fins for the second year in a row

Dive Desk has been awarded the Green Fins certificate of participation on June 1, 2015 for undertaking the training on environmentally friendly diving and snorkeling and passing the assessment of compliance with the Green Fins Code of Conduct. Green Fins is an international non-profit organization working to protect coral reefs through sustainable tourism, in partnership with United Nations Environment Programme and the Reef World Foundation. Dive Desk was the first Member from Maldives to join the movement last year, and we are happy to recognized as a responsible tourist operator. The mission statement for Green Fins read, "A quarter of all marine life and half a billion people directly depend on coral reefs for survival. Yet, reefs globally are under threat. Green Fins educates and empowers people to reduce pressures on coral reefs by adopting sustainable tourism measures. Together, we can keep our coral reefs healthy and thriving for years to come". We hope the Green Fins movement will achieve a global impact of reducing harm to the environment during dive operations.

  • Dive Desk Facilitates Water Safety Sessions To Galolhu Madharusa Pre-Schoolers in 2015

Dive Desk is delighted with the opportunity by Galolhu Madharusa to conduct a Water Safety session for the pre-schoolers. Being able to explore and play enables children to develop, grow and learn, and become confident and capable. We applaud the school's initiative to create a safe environment for children to explore even outside of school by providing information on basic safety skills. The earlier you start conversations surrounding basic safety the better, and this needs to be an ongoing conversation. It was lovely seeing youngsters so keen for knowledge. We hope our talk brought a positive influence on their behavior, from getting motivated to learn swimming, to always wearing a life-jacket on boat even when you know how to swim to many other basic information to help create a safe environment for kids to explore. Dive Desk thanks the administration for the wonderful opportunity to impart a bit of our knowledge to the kids.

  • Dive Desk Joins Reef Check Maldives Network

Dive Desk is delighted to join Reef Check Worldwide in partnership with the environmental non-profit organization Gemana, to train our passionate divers to become citizen scientist volunteers to survey the health of our tropical coral reefs. The program involves becoming Eco-Diver Certified to undertake Reef Check Surveys and collect data for key indicator species critical to save our reefs and oceans. It empowers people to create a sustainable future through education, research and conservation. The data collected from these dives help researchers to improve the way natural resources are managed. “You would never look at a reef the same way again after being reef check certified. It completely changed the way I interacted with the reef.” For anyone with a passion for marine science, the Reef Check Eco Diver course gives a great introduction to scientific research in the field. We encourage all the PADI professionals we train and our divers to connect their passion for ocean adventure with a purpose for marine conservation. If you are interested to take courses to learn about marine conservation, check out the PADI Specialty Courses we have on offer: - Dive Against Debris Specialty - Project AWARE Specialist - Coral Reef Conservation - AWARE Shark Conservation - AWARE Ray Conservation For more information send us an email or contact Course Director Ashraf in (+960) 7937738.

  • Dive Desk Adopts Green Fins

Dive Desk is excited to become the first Green Fins Member in Maldives, an international non-profit organization working to protect coral reefs through sustainable tourism. Our Dive Center Managing Director, Dive Instructors and Divemaster Candidates participated in the sessions which highlighted the environmental guidelines devised to protect and conserve coral reefs. A quarter of all marine life and half a billion people directly depend on coral reefs for survival. Yet, reefs globally are under threat. Green Fins educates and empowers people to reduce pressures on coral reefs by adopting sustainable tourism measures. Together, we can keep our coral reefs healthy and thriving for years to come.
