Dive Desk is thrilled to have been part of a truly historic moment for the Maldives as the nation broke the Guinness World Record for the most people free-diving simultaneously! The record now stands at 521 participants, achieved by the Ministry of Tourism Maldives on 1 October 2019 in the middle of the sea off Baros Island near Male. You can see the official record here.
It was an incredible sight to witness participants coming together, supporting each other, and celebrating the thrill of diving as a community. Adding to the excitement, the President of the Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, also joined the dive, sharing the experience with everyone and highlighting the importance of marine awareness and adventure.
Dive Desk is especially proud to see our team and fellow enthusiasts helping each other to ensure everyone could be part of this record-breaking achievement. Events like these showcase the Maldives as a global hub for water sports and marine adventure, while also celebrating teamwork, safety, and the joy of diving.
Being part of a Guinness World Record is a testament to the passion, skill, and camaraderie of the diving community in the Maldives. Dive Desk is honored to contribute to this historic moment and inspire more people to connect with the ocean and explore its wonders.
