Dive Desk was thrilled to collaborate with Customs Recreation Club for a Dive Against Debris event in celebration of Earth Day 2018, aligning with this year’s theme: End Plastic Pollution. Together, we cleaned the Rasfannu reef and shoreline, collecting over 150 plastic bags and more than 300 plastic bottles.
Plastic made up the largest portion of the debris at 38 kg, followed by 19.5 kg of metal scraps, 7 kg of wood, 3 kg of glass, and 3 kg of miscellaneous items. With projections showing that by 2050 oceans could contain more plastic than fish, it’s critical to #KickThePlasticAddiction now!
A huge thank you to Customs Recreation Club for leading this important initiative and to the Dive Desk team—without your dedication, this effort would not have been possible. Even small actions from each of us contribute to a cleaner, healthier ocean.
We encourage all PADI professionals and divers to combine their passion for underwater adventure with marine conservation. Take “fins on” action to combat threats like pollution and habitat destruction.
