Halimeda
Halimeda, known locally as mashi, grows in stacks of tiny green plates that harden, die, and crumble into the white kashiveli sands forming Maldivian islands. Next to these fragile blades, a leaf scorpionfish and a ghost pipefish vanish into the background — masters of disguise among the very algae that create the sand beneath them.
